Based in Kabul with regional affiliates, Radio Television Afghanistan is the national media organisation for all provinces. Some Provincial Departments of Information and Culture have representatives who produce regional programmes in their native language. The mountains of the central region make national transmission difficult and satellite communication would alleviate this problem. Until then, the US government has donated a television transmitter to expand the services.
