 In 2007 the former National Sports Committee, the National Administration of Tourism and the Committee for Population, Family and Children were merged with the cultural departments of the former Ministry of Culture and Information to become the new Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. At the same time the former Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the press and publishing departments of the former Ministry of Culture and Information were merged to become a new Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC).In accordance with Decree No 185/2007/ND-CP of 25 December 2007, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Việt Nam is the government organisation responsible for state management in the fields of culture, family, sports and tourism, and for the state management of public services in the fields of culture, family, sports and tourism, based on the provisions of Vietnamese law.
