The University of Bergen was officially opened 30th August 1948 as a continuation of Bergen Museum , which was established in 1825. There are two university campuses in Bergen, one at Nygårdshøyden and Sydneshagen near Bergen town centre and the other at Årstadvollen and Haukelandsomerådet further outside Bergen. The Grieg Academy offers both undergraduate and graduate courses in Performance and Composition/Arranging, Musicology and Pedagogy. Undergraduate programmes last for four years with an option of a further two years postgraduate training.
