KIK is a national documentation archive and information agency for professional contemporary Norwegian art, photography and crafts. The KIK database of contemporary artists represents 2,500 current professional artists qualifying to be members of one of the national artists’ organisations (eg the National Association for Norwegian Fine Artists). The database is based on documentation submitted by the artists on a voluntary basis. The artists are presented with biographical information and digital pictures for the database, or in the slide archive comprising 2,500 artists and 30,000 art works collected since 1987 representing Norwegian contemporary art from the 1970s up to the present time. The material collected in the period from 1987-1992 is also available on microfiche and microfilm. Individual artists’ portfolios which provide supplementary information such as press clippings, catalogues, exhibition reviews etc are also available. KIK also has a collection of art books, Nordic and international art magazines and catalogues. KIK is open to members of the public who will be assisted by KIK staff for technical support when browsing the archive. KIK publishes the annual Norwegian Art Yearbook, the complete guide to Norwegian visual arts which reflects major events and developments in Norwegian art during the past year.
