Rogaland Art Centre is a public institution for fine art and handcrafts whose primary aims are to stimulate increased use of, and knowledge about, contemporary art, promote aesthetic values and protect artist’s interests in the face of increased commercialisation. It is also a service and communication centre which functions to enhance contact between professional fine artists and crafts-persons on one hand and the public on the other.
Located in Stavanger, the centre serves both the Municipality of Stavanger and Rogaland County. Rogaland Art Centre regards the visual arts as an essential part of society and temporary exhibitions show mainly new and young art. The centre distributes commissions in connection with artistic embellishment and decoration of public buildings and environment. It also sells and exhibits products and works as an advisory body on artists and arts. The centre works with an international remit and collaborates with numerous overseas arts organisations.
Rogaland Art Centre, Rogaland County Council, Stavanger Town Council and Sandnes Town Council, offer a residency to professional artists. The offer consist of a 1-3 months residency in Stavanger and Sandnes, in a rent free studio with accommodation.
