During the last 15 years Nordland County has initiated several groundbreaking projects within the field of culture in collaboration with Art in Nordland, especially focussing on contemporary visual art. Art in Nordland have also administered the out door sculpture collection known as Artscape Nordland, as well as public commissions in Nordland County and grants for artists. The project Artscape Nordland (Skulpturlandskap Nordland), which was realised during 1992-1998, has achieved huge international interest. 33 artists from 15 different countries contributed to this project, displaying a rare collection of modern sculptures placed in the landscape of 33 local municipalities all over the county. In 2003 Nordland County initiated Artistic Interruptions, a new contemporary art project. This project can be seen as a continuation and a further exploration of the experiences from Artscape Nordland in the field of site specific art. It receives extensive support from the Arts Council Norway, and will continue throughout 2006. Artistic Interruptions is a three year public art project initiated by the Department of Cultural Affairs of Nordland County and managed by Art in Nordland. Between 2003 and 2006 approximately 20 new site specific art projects will be launched in various local communities throughout Nordland County. The project operates in existing spaces outside or indoors, finding a suitable site for each new project.
