The museum is located in the former Salhus Stockinet factory (1859-1989) with its complete production line from wool to fully-produced clothes. The centre is one of eight industrial memorials which are listed as cultural heritage by Riksantikvaren, The national body for cultural heritage. The museum displays machinery and presents exhibitions relating to the Norwegian textile industry.
