Publishing
Coupled with the adoption of quốc ngữ as the official Vietnamese script, the rapid growth of publishing from the late 19th century onwards contributed significantly to the cause of national liberation by facilitating the rapid spread of literacy and creating a powerful tool for the propagation of patriotic and anti-colonial ideas.
Today an avid readership supports the production of over 18,000 new book titles each year by the country’s 47 publishing houses and an output of some 700 newspapers and periodicals published by around 450 press organisations.
