The award winning Tolbooth opened in March 2002, after an extensive and radical redevelopment by Richard Murphy Architects. The Tolbooth has origins as far back as the late medieval period and has been over the centuries Stirling’s court, jail and town council before its current use. The Tolbooth is Stirling’s place for music and arts. It houses two performance spaces, meeting and rehearsal space, recording studio, café / bar & restaurant.
Tolbooth produce 4 festivals each year – The Blend Festival in March which focuses on the performance traditions of Scotland and further afield; Le Weekend in May dedicated to experimental music; The Blast in October, a week long programme of arts activity for chldren and young people and a winter festival taking in Christmas and Hogmanay.
Tolbooth are a receiving venue for all their other activities with about 90% bought in and the remaining 10% hired. They produce their own comprehensive development / outreach programme including course, classes, workshops, residencies, a fellowship programme and masterclasses.
