Originally established in 1975 in the north eastern suburb of Thủ Đức as the School for the Culture and Information Profession Hồ Chí Minh City (Trường Nghiệp vụ Văn hóa Thông tin Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh), this institution became the Secondary School of Culture and Information Hồ Chí Minh City (Trường Trung học Văn hóa Thông tin Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh) in 1978. In 1986 it moved to new premises in District 1 and in 1996 it was upgraded to become the Hồ Chí Minh City College of Culture and Arts. The College offers three-year College Diploma programmes in Music (traditional and western instrumental music, vocal music, music education), Fine Art (painting, interior decorating, computer graphic art, use of colour, fashion, painting and photography education), Theatre (acting, writing, directing for both spoken drama and cải lương), Library and Information Studies, Cultural Tourism and Cultural and Information Management (culture houses, conservation and museums, mass culture, propaganda, publishing and other cultural services). The College also offers three-year Secondary Certificate programmes in Music and Fine Art. The school’s syllabus is designed to lead into those of the country’s arts and culture universities.
