Originating during the colonial era and upgraded to university status in 1957, Huế University was the first higher education institution in the then South Việt Nam to use Vietnamese as a medium of instruction. After Reunification it was split into several different colleges but in 1994 it once more became a single institution, with five affiliate establishments of higher education – Huế University of Science, Huế Teachers’ Training College, Huế College of Agriculture and Forestry, Huế Faculty of Medicine and Huế University of Arts. It currently has over 31,000 students and approximately 1,500 teaching staff.
