The Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Sida) is a government agency under the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The overall goal of Swedish development co-operation is to contribute to making it possible for poor people to improve their living conditions. By reducing injustices and poverty throughout the world, better opportunities are created for development, peace and security for all people and nations. In an increasingly globalised world we are all dependent on, and affected by, each other. Not all Swedish ODA is channelled via Sida. Of Sweden's total budget for development co-operation in 2006, SEK 15.7 billion, or 54 per cent, was channelled via Sida. Other major Swedish actors in the field of international development co-operation are the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Export Credits Guarantee Board.
