The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for educational and cultural relations. Its purpose is to enhance the UK's reputation in the world as a valued partner. It does this by creating opportunity for people worldwide with programmes in education, English language teaching, the arts, science, governance and information, through a network of 254 offices and teaching centres in 110 countries. The British Council receives a grant-in-aid from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the United Kingdom and also generates earned income through the teaching of English, conducting of British examinations and management of development and training contracts.
