 The functions of this state enterprise are to trade, import and export books, newspapers and magazines published in different languages both nationwide as well as overseas, plus stamps and other commodities (postcards, videos, cassette tapes, musical works and paintings). It participates in domestic and international book exhibitions and fairs and co-operates with private distribution agencies and organisations inside and outside the country in the fields of printing, publishing and distribution of cultural commodities in order to meet the needs of the domestic and export markets.
