Launched in August 2006, the Mekong Art and Culture Project is a collaborative project spanning six activities, four countries and eight art institutes across the Greater Mekong Subregion, including Huế University of Arts, Hà Nội University of Fine Art and Hồ Chí Minh City University of Fine Art (Việt Nam), the National Faculty of Fine Arts (Laos), the Royal University of Fine Arts (Cambodia), and Chiang Mai University, Mahasarakham University and Silpakorn University (Thailand).
The aim is to expand and encourage the contemporary art and culture movement, as well as valuable learning community-based experiences within the Mekong region.
Art production and art education will be conducted through various forms of creative activities, such as workshops, art camps, research grants, and a contemporary art exhibition.
The Mekong Art and Culture Project has a comprehensive commercial sponsorship and partnership programme on offer that enables international and domestic companies in the region to integrate with this challenging and creative initiative, and already boasts the Rockefeller Foundation, South East Asia Regional Office as its principal sponsor, and leading independent marketing consultants Paul Poole (South East Asia) Co Ltd, founding members of the culturepreneur® network, as its first official supplier.
