 The Centre for the Culture Profession is housed in a beautiful colonial building (c 1910) located on the west bank of the Hoàn Kiếm Lake, which was originally constructed as the Centre for the Advancement of Learning (Nhà Khai trí Tiến đức). The headquarters of its parent body, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Basic Culture Department (Cục Văn hóa Cơ sở) are now based here. The building was extensively refurbished in 2000. The Centre for the Culture Profession incorporates a small auditorium (A) for public performances and two meeting rooms (B and C) which are also used for changing exhibitions. The Centre organises an ongoing programme of arts activities, including concerts, exhibitions and competitions, and also hosts several local clubs including ballroom dancing, classical guitar and Huế culture clubs. A chamber ensemble drawn from members of the Việt Nam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) performs in the Auditorium on a regular basis.
