Opened in 2005, the Việt Art Centre is charged with: (i) organising exhibitions aimed at introducing paintings, sculptures and other works of fine art by artists, teachers and researchers from Việt Nam and overseas; (ii) organising short fine arts training programmes to enhance understanding and appreciation of the fine arts amongst the general public; (iii) publishing teaching materials, documents, specialised magazines and journals, catalogues and other cultural publications produced by the school and collaborating with various social and economic organisations in accordance with the plans and strategies of the school; (iv) designing and creating on commission large commemorative art works and participating in efforts to beautify the environment using works of art; (v) organising fine arts camps for government officials and for Vietnamese and foreign students, teachers, researchers and artists; and (vi) facilitating research and experimentation in the creative use of traditional materials by painters and sculptors. In 2004 the Centre was equipped with a media art unit containing some 40 brand new computers and software, though to date the University remains reliant on overseas teachers for media art training - with the financial assistance of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), academic staff from the Academy of Fine Arts of Sweden's Umeå University are currently working with the Hà Nội University of Fine Art in this area. The University is keen to develop further creative projects in the field of media art in collaboration with overseas arts institutions. The Centre incorporates two large gallery spaces and also has use of the University Museum for the display of changing exhibitions of contemporary Vietnamese art by teachers and students of the University and exhibitions of cutting-edge work by visiting artists from overseas. The Centre incorporates the Việt Art Cafe.
