Blue Space was opened in 1997 in the basement of the Hồ Chí Minh City Fine Art Museum. The vision of its founder Trần Thị Hùynh Nga was to create a centre that would be able to support diverse forms of contemporary artistic expression, with an emphasis on younger, underexposed talent. Soon after opening its doors Blue Space was awarded a grant by the Ford Foundation, enabling it to expand its activities. Since that time it has presented exhibitions of painting and sculpture and installations by Vietnamese artists from all regions of the country and by a number of visiting foreign artists. It has also installed a computer graphic art laboratory which conducts classes and organises training workshops. Blue Space now plays a vital role in the art community of Hồ Chí Minh City and its efforts have been recognised by numerous media articles praising many of the exhibitions presented. International creative collaborations are welcomed and further details of the Centre’s activities may be provided on request. The venue also includes a small fine art library and an art materials shop.
