Scotland Cultural Profile
'Bird station' by Mary Redmond/The CentreVisiting Arts' Scotland Cultural Profile is a comprehensive online guide to Scottish arts, culture and heritage. Featuring extensive introductory text backed up with detailed listings grouped by sector, it was launched on 30 November 2004 (St Andrew's Day) by the Deputy First Minister of Scotland, Jim Wallace, at the Residence of the British Ambassador to France in Paris. The launch was timed to coincide with the concluding reception to the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Entente Cordiale.
Aimed at a wide national and international market – including artists, festival organisers, promoters, cultural agencies, policy-makers, educators and the general public – the Scotland Cultural Profile seeks to present a diverse, contemporary image of Scotland and its arts, while providing a 'one-stop-shop' for objective, reliable information and practical resources on the country’s cultural infrastructure. Its primary target audience comprises overseas artists and other culture professionals with an interest in working in Scotland or with Scottish arts practitioners.
Visiting Arts' Scotland Cultural Profile provides a comprehensive 'industry overview' aimed at those who are unfamiliar with Scotland's cultural infrastructure, helping them to work effectively within it, to establish international exchange activities, and to maximise the impact of their projects.
The Scotland Cultural Profile is intended to operate in a complementary relationship with other key websites and web portals in the Scottish arts and culture sector, and focuses on the information of greatest use in international working, with signposts to other, more detailed and specialist sources of information.
Created by Visiting Arts in partnership with the British Council Scotland, and funded by the Scottish Executive, the Scotland Cultural Profile is Visiting Arts’ first such UK project.
