The Archive of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage is the most extensive collection of original documentation on National Heritage Sites in Norway. The archive comprises approximately 210,000 drawings and sketches dating back to mid 19th century. The photographic collection, dating back to the 1870s, totals 510,000 photos from all around Norway, a slide archive, and the Norwegian Portrait Archive of 12,000 repro-negatives of artistic portraits of Norwegians. The collections furthermore contains a scientific archive, featuring reports, correspondence etc on construction work on national heritage buildings, and various news clippings collected since the 1920s. The Library consists of approx. 55,000 items, concentrating on Norwegian architecture, archaeology, conservation and restoration of buildings, paintings and sculpture, and other topics related to cultural heritage.
