Originally devised to mobilise Vietnamese society in the revolutionary struggle against the French, Việt Nam's mass culture movement (Phong trào Văn hóa Quần chúng) takes the form of a nationwide network of programmes and propaganda activities co-ordinated by the Basic Culture Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with the aim of reinforcing adherence to the Communist Party Line on Literature and Arts (Đường lối văn nghệ của Đảng) and disseminating government and Communist Party directives regarding a cultured way of life.
