The Information Technology Centre was established in 2002 to assist the Director General in the application of information technology and the building up of data in accordance with the responsibilities of the State Records and Archives Department. Its main responsibilities are: preparing annual and long-term plans for the application of information technology for approval by the State Records and Archives Department; developing software for use in records management and archives work and assisting the divisions and units of the State Records and Archives Department in its implementation; developing and maintaining the LAN, WAN and website of the State Records and Archives Department, ensuring the connection with the government trannet and other links with ministries and agencies; undertaking IT training programmes for archival staff; and administering the IT equipment of the State Records and Archives Department. Since 2002 the Centre has established a local area network (LAN) to link the State Records and Archives Department HQ with National Archives Centre 1, National Archives Centre 3 and the Central Secondary School of Archives and Office Skills 1 in Hà Nội and a wide area network (WAN) to connect it to National Archives Centre 2 and the Central Secondary School of Archives and Office Skills 2 in Hồ Chí Minh City. It has also launched the new website of the State Records and Archives Department, http://www.luutruvn.gov.vn.
