Opened in April 1994, Bonhoga Gallery at Weisdale Mill is the first purpose-built visual and applied art gallery in Shetland and the most northerly in the UK. The gallery shows 11 exhibitions of local, national and international art and craft annually. An education and outreach programme accompanies some of the shows. It also hosts a touring exhibition programme with shows at Sumburgh Airport, the Leisure Centres in Yell, Unst and Whalsay and the Peerie Shop Cafe, Lerwick.
In partnership with WASPS Artist Studios and Highlands and Islands Arts Ltd (HI~Arts) it also runs the Lottery-funded Booth Project, a programme of arts residencies, events and exchanges run from a purpose-built artist/living working space in the nearby village of Scalloway.
