OVERVIEW:
Other ministries
Ministry of Communications 1Whilst for the time being the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs continues to exercise responsibility for licencing, Afghanistan's media sector (broadcasting, press, Internet) falls under the administrative control of the Ministry of Communications.
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education respectively oversee the activities of Afghanistan's training institutions, including those which teach cultural subjects.
Another key ministry is the Afghanistan Tourist Organisation, administered as an agency of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, which seeks to encourage joint ventures with tour operators and welcomes assistance from overseas tourist agencies and trainers in the field of cultural tourism. Qualified guides, hotel staff and new publications for tourists are needed. In the reconstruction by the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) of the Kabul Hotel, to be managed by the Serena Group, training needs will be addressed alongside those concerned with construction.
