OVERVIEW:
Training
VOV recording studio (Tim Doling)Voice of Việt Nam Radio (VOV) runs two training colleges for radio and television technicians, operators, radio producers and reporters working at both central and local radio and television stations around the country. The School of Broadcasting 1, Phủ Lý is located some 60 kilometres south of Hà Nội in Hà Nam Province, while the School of Broadcasting 2, Hồ Chí Minh City is based in the southern capital. VOV also has its own in-house Professional Skills Training Centre for short-term and in-service training of existing staff.
For its part Việt Nam Television (VTV) runs the Secondary School of Television Broadcasting at Thường Tín in Hà Tây Province, which offers two and a half and three-year Certificate programmes for trainee television technicians, cameramen, operators and reporters, and the Centre for the Training of Radio and Television Cadres in Hà Nội, which offers one-week or one-month refresher and new technology programmes for staff already working in the sector.
VTV cameraperson (VTV)VTV's Việt Nam Television Film Centre (VFC) also has its own Young Television Performers' Training Programme for up-and-coming young TV actors.
Although as yet Việt Nam has no degree courses in broadcasting, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in journalism (including radio and television journalism) are offered by the Faculty of Journalism of the Sub Institute of Press and Propaganda, Hồ Chí Minh National Institute of Political Studies and the Faculty of Journalism of Hà Nội University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) in Hà Nội, and by the Faculty of Literature, Linguistics and Journalism of Hồ Chí Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hồ Chí Minh City.
Occasional short courses for journalists are also offered by the Việt Nam Journalists' Association, the Hà Nội Journalists’ Association and the Hồ Chí Minh City Journalists’ Association.
