The opening of the
National Archives Centre 3 in Hà Nội in April 2002 marked an important milestone in the development of the Vietnamese archives sector.
The increase in storage space to 30 linear kilometres and the establishment of a conservation centre and climatised storage facilities, coupled with ongoing efforts to computerise archival records and digitise collections, have brought significant improvements across the board, enhancing access to public archival material.
Nonetheless, throughout the country as a whole substantial collections of documents have yet to be restored and catalogued and there remains an ongoing need for international dialogue and co-operation on conservation- and IT-related issues, particularly in relation to the training curricula of the two secondary schools and the Faculty of Archival Studies and Office Management at Hà Nội University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH).
To this end the State Records and Archives Department welcomes approaches from overseas archival agencies with a view to the establishment of collaborative developmental activities.
