In October 2002 I visited Kabul for a month to assess the current state of music in Afghanistan's capital, with special reference to the return of professional musicians from exile in Pakistan, and musical activities at Radio-Television Afghanistan and Kabul University. The visit was generously supported by the British Academy's Committee for Central and Inner Asia.
