Music in Kabul:
Music sessions at the Sufi khanaqah
Another important sign of the return to life of Kabul's musical life is the refurbished Sufi khanaqah (gathering place for holding spiritual concerts), in Sang Taroshi. This is a Chishti khanaqah connected with the Chishti Order, which is notable for its use of the devotional music. Before the Taliban, many musicians would play at the khanaqah in Sang Taroshi on Thursday evenings; they would take turns to perform, in so doing affirming the spiritual nature of music. The music sessions have started again in the khanaqah.
